YOU OPENED A NEW BUSINESS!

NOW WHAT? ?

Opening a new business can be challenging and expensive. Many business owners see an opportunity to save money and cut corners when it comes to graphic design. But in the long run, many business owners find out, the hard way, that route is a mistake. When you take the cheap route with marketing and branding, then you risk your customer’s views reflecting your budget.

Below are a few reasons why you should hire a professional graphic designer!

1. DIY or Professional

We, as professional designers, have seen it time and time again. A business owner creates their logo on PowerPoint or a template site, and it shows! There are a couple of things that can go wrong if you are not a professional designer.

If your designs look unprofessional – this can significantly impact how your business is perceived.

Here are two examples of a Labor Day social media graphic, nonprofessional and professional:

Happy

Clearly, this design was not made by a professional designer but rather was created on a free template website. There is no branding, and the spacing is all over the place and super busy. This social media graphic does not leave a lasting impression in the viewer’s mind, and if it does, it’s probably not a great one.

As you can see, this graphic is of higher quality than the other. First, take note of the branding. The colors and font that are being used tie into the rest of the brand (website, other social media posts, logo, etc.). The spacing is consistent throughout the graphic and the image pulls your eye to the center. This is an easy-to-view image that will leave a lasting impression.

2. Long-Term Saving

Money and time. A great way to save time and money as a business owner is to get things done correctly, the first time.

Time

Creating a design that grows with your business is essential, or you will be changing it up constantly. Not only is that not ideal for branding purposes but think of the amount of time it will take! Especially if you are not skilled in design software.

Here is an idea of the number of items most business owners want to be designed before opening their business:

  • Logo

  • Business Cards

  • Website

  • Social Media

  • Flyers

  • Brochures

and More!

Designing all these items, in a print & digitally friendly way, will be very time-consuming. Just think of all the money-making moves you would miss out on by attempting to design yourself.

Money

You might think that you are getting a bargain when you design yourself or have an unprofessional designer design for you. However, it typically is more expensive. A great way to look at it is to compare a design project to a home improvement project. You have three options:

That means that you have to spend the time to buy all the materials, measure, and execute the project. Then about halfway through you realize that you missed something and have to start all over again. Most of the time, the project never gets done or you end up hiring a professional. We can all admit to procrastinating here and there!

Much like doing it yourself, you are facilitating the entire project. Then, when it is “complete” you don’t love it. You then wait a couple of years, and you hire a professional to finish the job.

The contractor would set up a time to review design ideas, gain your approval and execute in a timely manner. That’s it, the job is completed the way you want it and correctly!

Digital design is the same way! You could try to do it yourself and spend money on design software, templated design websites, or paying a friend who took one design class. Or you could just skip all that and come to a professional who can achieve precisely what you are looking for. I’m not sure about you, but option 2 sounds pretty nice!

When starting a business, or looking to rebrand a current business, you have to change your mindset from “this is going to cost me a lot of money” to “this is going to make me a lot of money”. Of course, you should be mindful of a budget, but your budget should match your expectations. You cannot expect your business to grow if you do not have a professional digital presence!
